On November 18-23, the White House Visitor Center will show an exhibit entitled: “Thank you to the United States: Three Gifts to Presidents in Gratitude for American Generosity Abroad.” The “Armenian Orphan Rug” will be among the gifts exhibited there. According to the official web-site of the White House, the rug was presented to President Coolidge in 1925 in recognition of the humanitarian assistance rendered by the American people to displaced Armenian orphans. It should be noted, that Armenian National Committee of America reported that display of the Armenian Orphan Rug is the result of the months of Congressional and community pressure.

“The President has a clear choice to make. If President Obama's decision to publicly exhibit the Armenian Orphan Rug is to represent a symbol of real progress, he will speak clearly and fearlessly about the horrific and still unpunished crime that led to its creation - the Armenian Genocide.

"If, on the other hand, the President's decision to display this artwork represents yet another cynical substitute for the very progress he promised the American people, this will be immediately evident through his continued enforcement of Turkey's gag-rule and offensive use of euphemisms and evasive language." –noted ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian.

In addition, the American periodical Washington Post earlier touched upon this theme representing the history of the carpet and the problems connected with its exhibition. See more ARMENIAN RUG IN WHITE HOUSE STORAGE.
