 On October 17-19 the Second International Congress on Armenian Studies «Armenian Studies and the Challenges of Modern Times» took place in the National Academy of Sciences of RA. During the congress the reports were delivered on Armenian art and architecture. Tatyana Yurieva (Russia), Zbigniew Szmurlo (Poland), Armen Ghazaryan, Andrey Ivanov (Russia), Svetlana Sargsyan, Henrik Hovhannisyan and others delivered their reports. The reports were on Armenian art and architecture: Armenian artists in St. Petersburg. (Minas Avetisyan,  Levon Lazarev, Zaven Arshakuni), Armenian Khachkars in Poland, some Armenian composers, architectural peculiarities of various Armenian churches, etc.

On the first day of the congress the presentation of «The architecture of the churches in Transcaucasian countries in the 7th century» by Armen Ghazaryan was held. During the presentation the author introduced four volumes of the book. «The architecture is presented in accordance with typological progress. In the first volume the observations of Hovhan Bagarantsi and Catholicos Komitas on the churches built at the end of the 6th century were presented», noticed Armen Ghazaryan. According to the author the construction activities of Grigor Mamikonyan were represented and   the rural traditions of architecture in the 7th century were analyzed in the following volumes of the book. 

The second part of the 4th volume has an extensive epilogue, where the typological table was presented. «The current state of monuments in Georgia, Turkey and Azerbaijan was criticized in the book. New reconstruction plans were offered for the contribution to the reconstruction of the churches». Those who were present in the presentation of the book congratulated the author. Davit Kertmenjyan noticed that the book is an important work, which was published in time. According to him the author continues the scientific activities of Tormanyan, Jacobson, Hasratyan. NAS RA Associate member, Doctor of Arts, professor, Henrik Hovhannisyan greeted the fact that the author refused to use the evolution theory in his book. «In these four volumes the monuments are introduced in a new way, they are examined from an artistic point of view»,-noticed Levon Chookaszian.

After the presentation the film «A step to eternity» by Tatyana Yurieva was shown, which was dedicated to the Armenian  sculptor Levon Lazarev.
