GEORGES  DIRAN GARVARENTZ (1 April, 1932, Athens- March 21, 1993, Paris) was an Armenian composer, he is the son of K. Garvarentz. In1943 Georges Garvarentz   moved to Paris and  in 1952 he graduated from Conservatoire de Paris.  Many famous French singers sang his songs, such as  J.  Hallyday, S. Vartan, G. Bécaud , his wife A. Aznavour and others. Among his best songs are “A Ma Fille”, “Ponts De Paris”, “La Lumière des Justes”, “Une Vie d’Amour”, “J’Attends”, “Je n'Oublierai Jamais”, “Ils sont Tombés”, “Paris au Mois d'Août”, “Venise” (lyrics by Ch. Aznavour), “Pour Toi Armenie” (with Charles Aznavour, dedicated to the earthquake of Spitak in 1988, the song was translatedGeorges Garvarentz and Charles Aznavour into many languages). Garvarentz wrote film scores, such as “Le Diable et les Dix Commandements”, “Téhéran 43 ”, “L’Amour”, “Sapho ou La Fureur d’Aimer”. The composer visited Armenia in 1977 and in 1988. He was awarded a special prize by the Chansonnier society in 1964.
